With less than a week to go until the huge UFWC clash with the Netherlands, England head coach Fabio Capello has plenty to think about as he prepares to name his squad. The match takes place just three days before the start of the Premier League season, and many club managers will be looking on nervously, but Capello will expect to have a broad choice of players available to him.
Manchester United quartet Rio Ferdinand, Wayne Rooney, Michael Carrick and Ben Foster are expected to be involved, but it is unlikely that Capello will recall Michael Owen to the England fold following the injury-ravaged striker's surprise move to the Premier League champions. Another player who is unlikely to receive a call from Capello, despite press speculation, is Arsenal's 17-year-old Jack Wilshere, who caught the eye last weekend when he scored twice to help his club defeat Rangers 3-0 and win the Emirates Cup.
Capello will use the Netherlands match, and the subsequent friendly against Slovenia, to prepare for England's crucial World Cup qualifier against Croatia next month. The Netherlands have already qualified for the 2010 finals.
