Mexico 2-0 Jamaica

9 June 2016 Rose Bowl, Pasadena Copa America Centenario Scorers: Hernandez, Peralta Mexico retained the UFWC title and guaranteed passage to the Copa America Centenario quarter finals with this deserved win over Jamaica. Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez scored his 45th goal for his country - he needs just one more to tie Jared Borgetti's all-time record of 46. Mexico still have a group game to play, against Venezuela. Both teams are already in the quarter finals, meaning the UFWC title is guaranteed to be contested in the knock-out stages, right through to the Copa America final. Mexico scored their goals in the 18th and 81st minutes. Chicharito's opener was a brilliant header from a Jesus Corona cross that gave keeper Andre Blake no chance, and Oribe Peralta made it two nil with a low shot inside the far post. But Jamaica were no pushovers, with Chelsea's Michael Hector forcing a couple of good saves from reinstated Mexico keeper Memo Ochoa, and Clayton Donaldson denied what looked like a clear penalty. This was Mexico's third UFWC title win, and it moves them to 36th in the all-time ranking table alongside Denmark and the Republic of Ireland. Mexico play Venezuela at the NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, on Monday 13 June. Like Mexico, Venezuela won their two opening games, and knocked out former UFWC champions Uruguay with a 1-0 win. West Bromwich Albion striker Salomon Rondon scored the only goal of that game. Venezuela have played in four previous UFWC title matches, and have won it once, ten years ago, also courtesy of a 1-0 win over Uruguay. Kick off in Houston is 20:00 local time, 01:00 in the UK. This match was played at 22:00 on 9 June local time, which was 03:00 on 10 June in the UK.
