After taking an early lead, Chile were pegged back, and the fell behind. But Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez proved to be the difference between the two sides, as Chile fought back to win, and remain Unofficial Football World Champions. Felipe Gutierrez gave Chile the lead after just eight minutes, lifting the ball over goalkeeper Antony Silva following some poor Paraguay defending. But Paraguay improved, and there were no more goals before half-time. Early in the second half, Paraguay stunned the Santiago stadium with two goals in two minutes. First Jonathan Fabbro netted a rebound off Chile keeper Johnny Herrera, and then Jorge Benitez scored an easy header, with Herrera stranded. Paraguay led the UFWC champions 2-1 after 54 minutes. Ten minutes later, though, Twente midfielder Gutierrez scored his and Chile's second goal after an intricate passing move. The score remained level until the 82nd minute, when Alexis, who had been involved in Chile's previous two goals, scored a third, tapping in at the back post. The final score was 3-2 to Chile. This was Chile's 13th UFWC title match win, moving them clear of Austria and Wales in 12th place in the all-time rankings. Their next match is a World Cup qualifier at home against Brazil, 6th in the rankings and UFWC champions as recently as June. The match takes place on 8 October, again at the Estadio Nacional Julio Martinez Pradanos, with a 20:30 local kick-off time.
