It was a relatively straightforward win against a fairly toothless Brazil, who were without Neymar and looked to have lost their recent spark. Chile are the form team, and were favourites ahead of the match, so it was no surprise for UFWC-watchers to see the Unofficial Football World Champions prove their claim to the title. Despite injury concerns, Chile stars Arturo Vidal and Alexis Sanchez both started the game, to influential effect. In the absence of Neymar (and Roberto Firmino), Hulk played up front for Brazil. Although Hulk had scored in his previous two internationals, he was back to his frustrating worst today. In a tight first half of few chances, Sanchez came closest to scoring, rattling a post just before the break. Chile had the best of the second half, and were eventually rewarded in the 72nd minute, when Matias Fernandez's curling free-kick was met by Hoffenheim (and former QPR) striker Eduaro Vargas, who hooked the ball past Brazil keeper Jefferson. The win was sealed in the final minute, when Vidal and Sanchez combined to surge into the box, where Sanchez finished at the second opportunity - after his first shot was blocked on the line. The 2-0 win was suitable UFWC revenge for Chile, who were beaten by Brazil in a title match in March. This was Chile's 14th UFWC title match win in 38 attempts. They remain in 15th place in the all-time UFWC rankings, but are now just one win behind the 14th-placed Czech Republic - and just three wins behind Hungary and Spain. Next up is another World Cup qualifier on Tuesday, 13 October, as Chile travel to Peru. The teams last met in the Copa America semi-finals in June, when Chile won 2-1, with two goals from Vargas. Peru have won seven UFWC title matches, and are 25th in the all-time rankings. There last run as champions was back in 1982, when they beat a star-studded France. The match will be played at Estadio Nacional de Lima. Kick-off is 20:30 on 13 October (02:30 on 14 October in the UK).
