Mexico 0-7 Chile

18/06/2016 Levi's Stadium, Santa Clara, California Copa America Centenario Quarter Finals Goals: Vargas (4), Puch (2), Sanchez Mexico's brief reign as Unofficial Football World Champions was brought to a brutal end with this crushing Copa America defeat to Chile. Eduardo Vargas scored four goals in a 7-0 win that saw Chile progress to the Copa semi finals and regain the UFWC title they held for five months in 2015. Chile will play Colombia in the semi finals, while hosts the USA will play favourites Argentina for a place in the final. Reigning Copa champions Chile's swift passing moves were no match for Mexico, who saw their recent unbeaten run come to an emphatic end. Alexis Sanchez and Arturo Vidal pulled the strings for Chile, who, having regained the UFWC title, will now look to retain the Copa America trophy. Edson Puch opened the scoring in the 26th minute, and Vargas made it 2-0 just before half time, with an assist from the excellent Sanchez. The only negative point for Chile in a dominant first half was a booking for the influential Vidal that will keep him out of the semi-final. Sanchez added a third after the break, before Vargas made his personal tally a brace, a hat-trick, then a double-brace (or a "poker"). Vargas only scored 2 goals all season for his club Hoffenheim, and only 3 in the previous season at Queen's Park Rangers, and has never been particularly prolific at club level. Yet he now has 31 in 58 appearances for Chile. Puch scored his second goal in the 87th minute to make the final score 7-0. It was the biggest UFWC title match win since Japan beat Tajikistan 8-0 in 2011. Chile are now ranked 14th in the all-time UFWC rankings with 16 title match wins. Colombia are 22nd with 9 wins. Of the other semi-finalists, the USA are ranked 39th with just 2 wins, and Argentina are 3rd with a big 61 wins. Colombia beat Peru on penalties to reach the semi finals. They had previously beaten the USA and Paraguay to advance from the group stage, although they lost their last group match to Costa Rica. Chile, meanwhile, defeated Panama and Bolivia during the group stage, but lost and finished runner-up to potential final opponent Argentina. The remaining Copa America Centenario fixtures that will affect the UFWC are: Semi Final 1: 21/06/2016 USA vs Argentina, NRG Stadium, Houston Semi Final 2: 22/06/2016
