Netherlands 2-3 Germany
24th March 2019
Amsterdam ArenA (15') 0:1 L. Sané
(34') 0:2 S. Gnabry
(48') 1:2 M. de Ligt
(63') 2:2 M. Depay
(90') 2:3 N. Schulz Only 4 months after their last UFWC meeting (Match #954, 19th November 2018) Netherlands was again challenged by Germany in a European Qualifier Match in Amsterdam. Germany's head coach Jogi Loew fielded a refreshed and young team, having sorted out Mats Hummels, Jerome Boateng and Thomas Mueller just some days before starting into the UEFA2020 Qualifying campaign. Germany started strong into the first half, playing motivated towards the goal of Jasper Cillessen (Barcelona's reserve keeper), while Germany's Marc-André ter Stegen (Barcelona's regular keeper) had to watch the action from the bench as Manuel Neuer was captaining "Die Mannschaft". After 15 minutes the german offensive efforts resulted in the 1:0-lead scored by Leroy Sané, followed by also 2 good saves from Manuel Neuer. But in the 34th minute Serge Gnabry scored the 2nd goal for Germany in absolute fine fashion from approximately 16 meters, sending the teams into the break with a german 2:0 lead. Second half started somewhat as a opposing story. The Dutch Elftal invested way more into their attacking personnel, suddenly having the stakes on their side. Consequently it only took them 3 minutes to score by a header of de Ligt and pushing it to the 2:2 equalizer by Depay after 64 minutes. So at that point of time both teams seemed to be satisfied with 1 point, being aware of their investments in the game. But Jogi Loew picked the right substitutes - Reus and Gundogan ultimately brought Nico Schulz into a promising position to finally score the 3:2 winning goal in the 90th minute! This amazing match made Germany conquering the UFWC crown for the 11th time, also occupying the 7th rank in the AllTime Table with now 29 UFWC wins out of 66 total UFWC appearances. The next UFWC title match will be played 8th of June 2019 in Barysaw, when Belarus will challenge Germany. If you want to stay up-to-date on all things UFWC follow us on facebook or twitter!
