Slovenia 0-2 Romania

Larnaca, 01/03/05 After defeating Armenia by the same scoreline on the previous day, Romania beat Slovenia 2-0 to retain the UFWC title and win the Cyprus International Football Tournament. Ionut Mazilu scored in the first half, and Solvenia's Andrej Pecnik netted an own-goal in the second. 24 hours earlier, Romania had easily beaten Armenia with goals from defender Vasily Maftei and Razvan Cocis. In an odd end to the tournament, Romania finished top of Group 2, while Greece finished top of Group 1, but there was no match between the two sides, who shared the Cypriot title. Romania, FIFA-ranked among the top 30 sides in the world, are not among the qualifiers for Germany 2006. The Romanians finished third to the Netherlands and the Czech Republic in qualifying group 1. They will now be called upon to provide warm-up opposition, and will also attempt to qualify for Euro 2008. Romania's highest profile player is controversial Juventus striker Adrian Mutu.
