Peru 3-0 Saudi Arabia

3 June 2018 Kybunpark, St Gallen, Switzerland Friendly Scorers: Carrillo, Guerrero (2) Unofficial Football World Champions Peru continued their impressive form with this comfortable win over Saudi Arabia, in a World Cup warm-up that suggests La Blanquirroja are a team to watch, while Saudi's Green Falcons will struggle at Russia 2018. This match saw the return of Peru captain and record goalscorer Paolo Guerrero, who netted twice in a 3-0 win. Peru welcomed back Guerrero after a Swiss tribunal agreed to temporarily lift the striker's 14-month suspension, extended by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas), while it considers his appeal following a positive drug test. Guerrero's appeal was backed in a letter signed by the captains of the three teams facing Peru in Group C at the World Cup - Hugo Lloris of France, Mile Jedinak of Australia and Simon Kjaer of Denmark. The match was played at the neutral venue of the Kybunpark (formerly the AFG Arena) in St Gallen, Switzerland. The 20,000-capacity venue is the home stadium of FC St Gallen, and also the temporary home of FC Wil. Andre Carrillo opened the scoring for Peru in the 20th minute with a spectacular left-foot volley from 20 yards. Guerrero made it 2-0 before half-time, netting from close range after a neat team move. It was 3-0 midway through the second half, when Guerrero scored with a firm header from Carrillo's cross. Guerrero was replaced by his great friend Farfan - who missed out due to Guerrero's return, but there were no further goals. The win was Peru's 14th in UFWC competition, and means La Blanquirroja retain the UFWC title and remain in 16th position in the all-time rankings. The next UFWC title match is another World Cup warm-up. Peru take on Sweden in Gothenburg on Saturday, 9 June. Sweden are among the top ten most successful UFWC teams, and sit 7th in the all-time rankings with 28 title match wins. Sweden are in World Cup Group F, alongside Germany, Mexico and South Korea. Peru v Sweden kicks off at the Ullevi in Gothenburg at 20:15 local (19:15 UK) on 9 June. We'll have full coverage here on the UFWC website.
