Uruguay 3-0 Chile

17/11/2015 World Cup Qualifier Estadio Centenario, Montevideo Scorers: Godin, Pereira, Caceres A comfortable World Cup qualifying for Uruguay over Chile saw Uruguay reclaim the UFWC title. Diego Godin, Alvaro Pereira and Martin Caceres were the scorers in a 3-0 win. The result brought to an end Chile's five-match UFWC reign. Uruguay last held the title in June 2014, and once again become Unofficial Football World Champions. Chile, with Alexis Sanchez in their line-up despite injury fears, had the best of the opening exchanges, but it was Uruguay who opened the scoring midway through the first half. The Chilean defence failed to properly clear a long free kick, and the returned ball eventually fell at the feet of Godin, who slashed it into the roof of the net. The second goal was a route-one special, with goalkeeper Fernando Muslera's long kick flicked on by Edison Cavani to substitute Pereira, who looped a back-header into the net. Victory was assured when Caceres powered home an easy header from a corner to make the score 3-0. To add insult to injury, Jorge Valdivia was sent off for Chile, capping a miserable evening. This was Uruguay's 21st UFWC title match. La Celeste are currently 11th in the all-time rankings, and need only four more wins to make it into the top ten. Uruguay are now second in the CONMEBOL WC qualifying table, three points behind Ecuador. Uruguay's next qualifier is against Brazil next March. However, they may play a friendly match ahead of that date, which, once confirmed, would become the next UFWC title match. We'll have full coverage of all upcoming UFWC title matches right here.
